Teec Nos Pos, which means circle of trees in Navajo, is a Navajo rug weaving region located near the four corners. The oldest rug known to exist is dated back to 1890. During this time traders were aggressively converting the weavers of blankets to weavers of rugs. The border of a Teec Nos Pos rug is wide and lavishly decorated with repeated geometric shapes. The centers are flamboyant; interlocking diamonds with hooked and forked zigzag lines that woven out side the center. Feathers and arrows may be scattered on a Teec Nos Pos rug. The trademark of a Teec Nos Pos rug is the outlining of each element with a contrasting color.
